Energy-optimized system for millions of travelers - delivery of complete solution to airport in Cyprus

A decade ago, the Turkish Cypriot authorities decided to expand the Ercan Havalimani airport. The aim was to provide passengers with an improved travel experience and increase tourist flows to northern Cyprus. The project is expected to be completed in May 2023, and thanks to a close supplier collaboration with Regin’s team in Turkey, an energy-efficient terminal building with optimized climate levels can be opened.

"We are very proud to have been able to contribute to a sustainable airport facility. The renovation and expansion of the airport are important for tourism and economic growth in the area, and with the addition of modern facilities, the airport can offer increased comfort for both passengers and employees," says Sercan Tuncer, Regional Business Development Manager at Regin Turkey.

The new terminal building covers 20,000 square meters, including a terminal parking area of 34,000 square meters. The airport's capacity has thus increased to 10 million passengers per year. To meet the operational challenges of the facility, Regin has delivered a complete solution for building automation and energy optimization, controlled by the building management system Arrigo. In addition, several customized solutions have been delivered to increase energy optimization.

"As part of the project, Regin's control units have been integrated into the facility's 75 air handling units, which allows to monitor the performance of the units and adjust the settings to meet energy targets. In addition, 700 fan coil units are controlled with Regin's thermostats. The thermostats automatically adjust operating modes at the airport to increase energy efficiency and ensure optimal temperature, humidity, and air quality. The project also includes communication with energy analysers and electricity meters, which enables calculation of electricity consumption," says Sercan.
